Once the engine of London’s electricity, Battersea Power Station now runs with a different kind of energy.

Within Switch House West, this triplex penthouse balances industrial history with modern craftsmanship, combining 1930s brick and steel with calm, understated interiors.

Industrial heritage & contemporary design

Set across the seventh and eighth floors, this 1,343 sqft home with a 634 sqft private roof terrace occupies one of the most characterful positions within the Power Station’s west wing.

Originally completed in 1933 under architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, Switch House West was reinterpreted by Wilkinson Eyre with interiors by Michaelis Boyd, whose scheme references the building’s 1930s origins.

Exposed brickwork, steel columns and Crittall-style screens retain the building’s industrial language, while pale herringbone floors, white lacquer cabinetry and brushed copper accents introduce warmth and balance. Ceiling heights of 2.73m and full-height aluminium-framed windows fill the interior with light.

The open-plan kitchen and reception extend to a terrace with views towards the Thames. A discreet guest cloakroom completes the principal floor.

“Switch House West has a strong sense of place - the brickwork, proportions and materials are authentic to the building’s history. This penthouse has been completed to a high specification and maintained in immaculate condition.” - Yahya Swallem, Associate Director at Beauchamp Estates.

Upper levels & roof terrace

On the upper floor, the principal bedroom suite is finished in a deep green tone, with bespoke joinery and a freestanding oval bath set within a marble-lined ensuite. The second bedroom, equally generous, includes integrated wardrobes and access to a limestone-tiled shower room.

A concealed staircase rises to the roof terrace, which spans the full width of the apartment. The space is designed for outdoor dining and quiet relaxation, framed by views of the Power Station’s four restored chimneys and the riverside gardens below.

Architecture & amenities

Switch House West forms part of Battersea Power Station’s restoration by Wilkinson Eyre, the first phase of the main building to complete in 2021. Residents benefit from a 24-hour concierge, state-of-the-art gym, 21-metre pool, private screening rooms, and landscaped rooftop gardens by Andy Sturgeon Design.

The development integrates period fabric with new infrastructure from its Art Deco turbine halls repurposed as galleries and shops to the electric boulevard lined with restaurants, design studios and fashion houses. The Northern Line extension places the West End less than 15 minutes away.

Legacy

Originally responsible for supplying electricity to Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament and Tate Britain, the Power Station operated for fifty years before closing in 1983. Its adaptive reuse is now considered one of Europe’s most ambitious urban regeneration projects, a collaboration between leading architects and international investors.

Since Apple established its London headquarters here in 2023, the site has continued to attract design, media and technology companies, reinforcing Battersea’s new identity as a creative and commercial hub.

“This triplex penthouse captures the Power Station’s industrial legacy and its transformation into one of London’s most distinctive residential addresses. It combines the precision of contemporary architecture with the craftsmanship of the 1930s original.” - Jeremy Gee, Beauchamp Estates' Managing Director
